Girolamo Russo, 'a Rina Etna Rosso, Sicily - 2017

Founded by Giuseppe Russo in 2005 in memory of his late father, Girolamo Russo is a Sicilian native from the village of Passopisciaro. Together with his family, Giuseppe farms 15 hectares of vines interspersed with olive and chestnut trees on the volcanic northern slopes of Mt Etna. The location may be picturesque, but it makes viticulture a challenging endeavour, with many of the vineyards planted on steep, terraced slopes with very little rainfall throughout the year. Nevertheless, the Russo family farm their vines organically, with the resultant wines made with minimal intervention in order to let the rustic volcanic terroir shine.

A blend of Nerello Mascelese & Nerello Cappuccio. There’s red cherry and red berries with a savoury earthy volcanic note & some pepper spice.  A wonderful example of how great Sicilian wines can be this clean, open & delicious.
